About the Choir

A recent performance in the Catholic Cathedral, Shrewsbury

Midlands Chorale is a mixed voice Chamber Choir of around 30 members. From early days, its singers, drawn from all corners of the Midlands, have enjoyed the challenge of learning and performing complex pieces over the course of just 6 rehearsals per concert.

Although a typical term involves only 6 rehearsals, we aim for a high standard of performance. This means that rehearsal work needs to be reinforced by homework. The choir aspires to professionalism in its performance. Whenever it is appropriate, we engage professional instrumentalists and soloists to enhance the concert experience for both choir and audience.

Since the Choir attained Charitable Status in 2005, one of our principal aims has been to assist in raising funds for various Charities. Typically, Charity benefit raisers will host, and sell tickets for, our concerts. Over the past few years, this has meant that we have performed to well attended, appreciative, audiences, which has been rewarding for the choir, as well as profitable for the benefiting Charities.

Though committed to serious music making, we are a friendly and sociable choir. Many are not averse to partake of light refreshments after rehearsals and concerts, and we enjoy at least one major Choir Dinner per year.

The Chorale welcomes applications for new membership. Please contact one of the Committee members if you are interested in joining.
